Opinion Survey: 78% of Somali people want President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo to be re-elected for a new second term to make him the first sitting Somali president to be re-elected!
President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo ranks the most preferred Presidential candidate in the 2021 elections, at 78 per cent. A Somalia pollster firm has revealed.
President Farmajo is trailed by Puntland president Said Abdullahi Deni with 8 per cent and Former President Shariff sheikh Ahmed with 5 per cent.
Immediate former Prime minister Hassan Ali Kheyre, Former deputy Prime minister Madam Fawzia Yusuf and Dr. Abdinasir Abdille all got 2 per cent in the survey conducted between September 4th and 12th. Former president Hassan Sheikh Mahamud, Ambassador Dahir Mahamud Gelle were also featured and ranked lowly with each getting 1 percent of Somalis preferring them to be the presidents.
It’s also very important to note is that the survey was conducted before the President and the Prime minister’s recent rift over the disappearance of Spy agent Ikraan Tahlil that has thrown the country into a political spin.
Interestingly, 80% of those who took part in the survey think Somalia is headed to the right direction. Of those, 62 per cent of the president’s supporters think the country is headed in the right direction, 18 per cent of the same said it’s headed in the wrong direction. 85 per cent of the opposition’s supporters say Somalia is headed in the wrong direction and only 7 per cent think it’s moving in the right direction.
